ATLANTA — The newest segment of the Atlanta Beltline will open on June 12, just in time for the World Cup, completing the connection between the Eastside and Westside trails.
The two segments on the Southside Trail will connect riders between Grant Park and Pittsburgh Yards, bringing the total length of the Beltline trail to 16.7 miles. The other portion of the Southside Trail between Glenwood Park and Grant Park opened in April.
Workers are wrapping up the next segment, which would connect Boulevard to the existing path starting at Pittsburgh Yards.
Police cars are preventing people from sneaking onto the path, which is prohibited. Until it opens, cyclists can ride residential streets to connect between Boulevard and Pittsburgh Yards.
A map of the detour is posted above.
Segments on the north end of the Beltline remain unfinished. Those projects are in various stages of development, and Beltline officials hope to have those completed by 2030, creating a full 22-mile loop around the city.
The most complex part of the remaining project is the 2.3-mile segment three of the Northeast Trail from Buford Highway to the MARTA Lindbergh station. The project will involve crossings of existing railways, highways, and Peachtree Creek.
