Lackawanna Avenue detour starts today for large vehicles in Scranton
Drivers of large commercial vehicles and transit buses should prepare for delays and a new traffic pattern in downtown Scranton starting Monday morning. The city has implemented a mandatory detour for all trucks, buses, and other large vehicles traveling southeast on Lackawanna Avenue. Instead of continuing on their usual route past the historic Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel, these oversized vehicles are now required to turn onto Cedar Avenue to access the President Biden Expressway.
Scranton officials issued the traffic advisory ahead of the Monday morning commute, warning that the sudden shift in traffic flow is expected to cause congestion and travel delays throughout the southeastern corridor of the downtown area. Passenger cars and smaller commuter vehicles are currently permitted to continue on their standard routes, but city authorities are advising all motorists traveling near the Radisson to exercise extra caution, plan for potential backups, and allow additional travel time to reach their destinations.
