Warner Bros. has a new Minecraft movie coming out in July 2027, and it has been revealed to be a project humorously titled A Minecraft Movie Squared.
Jack Black played Steve in the box-office mega hit, A Minecraft Movie, and the funnyman will be reprising the role in the sequel, A Minecraft Movie Squared, which is due out in late July of 2027. Some industry insiders think they could do even better financially this time around than the last time.
This title that has been chosen is funny because it is all about those mysterious blocks that the characters use in the franchise. That selected title for the sequel certainly fits the bill for an enormously profitable franchise like this one. The profits for the sequel probably won’t beat the first film’s receipts squared, but the title is still tremendously cute and the upcoming movie should make a fortune at the box-office.
Kirsten Dunst will portray Alex in A Minecraft Movie Squared. Dunst will be starring alongside Black and Jason Momoa (who is reprising his role from the first film) in a role that Dunst seems the perfect fit for. Jennifer Coolidge is also slated to come back after her hilarious scene-stealing supporting part in last year’s hit A Minecraft Movie.
The Minecraft Movie Build Challenge was something posted for fans of the franchise and the lucky winner of the contest will have their very own Minecraft build featured in the upcoming movie or the forthcoming film’s end credits. That contest will be ending on July 6th.
Jason Momoa will be seen in Supergirl early this summer while Jack Black was recently featured in the Anaconda reboot that did lukewarm business at the box-office. Expect a teaser trailer to hype up the new Minecraft movie and get people ready for the follow-up to the popular video-game based original.
Jared Hess will be sitting in the director’s seat yet again for the new sequel which is a Warner Bros./Legendary co-production. He made a splurge on the movie scene when the first Minecraft made money, but he was criticized for bad reviews. Now he’s coming back for some new fans to see if he improves with the new project this time out. Hess is also known for 2004’s sleeper hit, Napoleon Dynamite.
On July 27, 2026, the Minecraft sequel will be revealed to the world in movie theaters. Don’t expect it to have any chance of not spinning a profit. The original Minecraft movie officially grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide ($960 million, to be exact). Even if new generations of fans for Minecraft take over the tickets of the audience members who may be too old for it, the film will be a win-win situation all around.
