CAMP MURRAY, WA — Washington residents who suffered losses from severe storms and flooding in December have one week remaining to apply for federal disaster assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The application deadline is June 10.
FEMA officials are encouraging eligible residents to submit applications as soon as possible. Assistance may be available for temporary housing, home repairs, personal property losses, displacement expenses, and other disaster-related costs. FEMA noted that people with insurance should still apply, as federal assistance may help cover expenses not paid by insurance policies.
According to FEMA, more than $8.76 million has already been approved for 925 applicants in designated disaster areas across Washington. Residents who previously applied through Washington state’s Individual Assistance program must also submit a FEMA application to be considered for federal aid.
Applications can be submitted online, by phone, through the FEMA mobile app, or in person at a Disaster Assistance Center.
In addition to FEMA assistance, the U.S. Small Business Administration is offering low-interest disaster loans to businesses, private nonprofit organizations, homeowners, and renters affected by the disaster.
Federal assistance is available to eligible residents in Chelan, Grays Harbor, King, Lewis, Pacific, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish, Thurston, and Whatcom counties, as well as members of several federally recognized tribes in the affected areas.
FEMA’s mission is to help people before, during, and after disasters, and officials are urging anyone who experienced disaster-related losses to complete their application before the June 10 deadline.
