CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held its monthly meeting at the Legion Post, June 9 with 11 senior members attending.
Chaplain Paula Pattison reported we held one funeral luncheon for the family and friends of Post 1280 World War II veteran Robert Kennelly; and she continues to send sympathy and get-well cards to Legion Family members as needed.
Empire Girl State representative, Gabrielle Cunningham, completed all requirements and is all set for her week at SUNY Brockport. The annual Rummage/Bake Sale was very successful. Thank you to all who donated, bought items, and worked the sale.
Memorial Day dawned beautifully. There were 11 cemetery visits, two parades, and a ceremony at the Cassadaga cemetery; prayers, songs, placing of wreaths, speeches, gun salutes and Taps to honor our fallen.
Poppy chairperson Lauren Sharp reported we had a very successful Poppy season, and thanked everyone that volunteered their help. Unit 1280’s famous Bake Sale at the first Sons of the Legion’s Cruise-Night on May 26 was successful. Remaining Cruise Nights that will be held the last Tuesday of the summer months: June 30, July 28 and Aug. 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. The auxiliary will need pies and goodies to sell at these events.
It was noted that Post 1280 will be holding a community picnic Saturday, July 4. All are welcome; for details call the Legion (716) 595-3145.
Sally Lawson reminded everyone that Cassadaga’s “National Night-out” will be Wednesday, Aug. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the John Fessenden ballfields, in Cassadaga. Unit members voted to donate to National Night-out.
The installation of the Unit 1280 2026-27 officers was performed by past County Auxiliary President, Patricia Hayward. The slate of officers included: President, Ranee Kaus; 1st Vice President Charyle Tyler; Secretary, Carol Baker, Treasurer, Sue DeGolier; Chaplain Paula Pattison; Sgt-at-Arms, Lynn Moeller; we also set our committee chairpersons.
Unit 1280 does not meet in July, our next meeting will be our annual summertime get together with a dish-to-share gathering, at the Post, Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 6 p.m., with an informal meeting to follow.
Unit 1280 has nice corn brooms for sale at $18 each. Unit 1280 also continues to collect stamps, “Pennies for Hospice” and “can tabs” for Troop support”.
