Toyota Corolla Cross India launch expected by late 2028 or 2029. This global SUV offers hybrid powertrains and premium features.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has planned several new SUVs and MPVs with multiple powertrain options for the Indian market. Additionally, the carmaker recently announced an investment of over USD 3 billion in India along with its expansion plans including setting up two new production facilities – one in Maharashtra and another in Bengaluru.
The upcoming product range will include the lower-spec Toyota Innova Hycross (codenamed 840D), next-generation Toyota Fortuner, Toyota’s derivative of Maruti Suzuki’s new electric MPV, the new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ and the Toyota Corolla Cross. The Toyota Corolla Cross will be the first model to be produced at the company’s upcoming Aurangabad facility. It’s production-ready version is expected to arrive in late 2028 or early 2029.
Built on the TNGA-C (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform, the Toyota Corolla Cross is offered globally with multiple powertrain options, depending on the market. In Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern markets, the SUV is available with a 1.8L, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 140bhp and 172Nm. Other engine options include a 2.0L NA petrol, a 1.8L petrol hybrid and a 2.0L petrol hybrid.
With recent model-year updates, Toyota has significantly upgraded the interior with features such as a 10.5-inch HD touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, OTA updates, dual-zone climate control, rear AC vents, powered and heated driver’s seat, wireless phone charger, auto dimming IRMV, ambient lighting, premium JBL audio system and more.
On the safety front, the Toyota Corolla Cross offers up to 9 airbags along with ABS, EBD, traction control, brake assist, vehicle stability control, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, Isofix child seat anchors, etc. It also comes with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, offering a comprehensive suite of advanced safety features.
Some of its design highlights include a large trapezoidal grille, slim LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, LED fog lamps, sculpted bumper, silver skid plate, squared wheel arches, black body cladding, roof rails, LED taillamps, high-mounted stop lamp, rear skid plate, powered tailgate and LED taillamps.
