In identically worded letters, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) national president K.M. Kader Mohideen on Saturday (May 9, 2026) extended unconditional support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form the government in Tamil Nadu.
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Saturday (May 9, 2026) issued a show-cause notice to Vinesh Phogat, accusing her of indiscipline and anti-doping rule violations, and declared her ineligible to compete in domestic events till June 26, 2026 for failing to complete the mandatory six-month notice period required for athletes returning from retirement under UWW Anti-Doping Rules.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday (May 9, 2026) arrested Punjab Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora, an agency source confirmed to The Hindu. Mr. Arora was taken into custody under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after raids were conducted at his official residence in Chandigarh since early morning, they added.
India has successfully carried out a flight trial of an Advanced Agni missile with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-Entry Vehicle (MIRV) off the coast of Odisha. The MIRV feature ensures that a single missile can deploy multiple war heads at different locations. The missile system was tested on Friday (May 8, 2026), according to the Defence Ministry.
The Congress on Saturday (May 9, 2026) demanded a discussion in Parliament on claims made by China that it provided on-site technical support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor last year. The person hit “was at least partially consumed by one of the engines,” ABC News reported, citing an unidentified official. Their condition was not immediately clear.
