CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has placed the capital city under an enhanced severe weather risk today, warning that afternoon thunderstorms could produce tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail.
Storms are expected to develop between 1 and 3 p.m. before moving east across southeast Wyoming. Potential impacts include isolated tornadoes, wind gusts over 75 mph and baseball-sized hail.
The high temperature for the area will reach near 74 degrees today after morning fog clears. Rain and storm chances remain at 50% through midnight, with low temperatures dipping to around 52 degrees tonight.
The active weather pattern continues through Wednesday and Thursday, with widespread storm coverage. Heavy rainfall from these midweek storms could cause localized flash flooding, especially over recent burn scars.
Drier air arrives Friday ahead of a weekend warming trend. Meteorologists expect rising temperatures and gusty southwest winds to increase fire weather concerns by Saturday.
More on the weather is available from the NWS in Cheyenne.
