Two deputies with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office helped rescue a baby hawk that was found dangerously close to traffic along the interstate Thursday.
The sheriff’s office said Deputy Bechard and Deputy Wood stopped to assist the young bird after spotting it near the roadway, where it was at risk of being struck by passing vehicles.
Officials said the deputies worked with northern New York wildlife rehabilitator Tara Fuller, who took custody of the hawk and arranged for it to receive specialized care.
The sheriff’s office said the goal is for the young hawk to be rehabilitated and eventually returned to its natural habitat.
