The next-generation Toyota Hilux has been spotted testing near Delhi, hinting at an India launch with a new design, updated cabin and more tech.

Toyota appears to be moving closer to introducing the next-generation Hilux in India. An undisguised test vehicle of the pickup truck has been spotted near Delhi Aerocity, suggesting that local evaluation is underway. While the company has not officially confirmed a launch timeline, the latest sighting indicates that preparations could be progressing behind the scenes. The ninth-generation Hilux, which made its global debut last year, brings notable updates over the current model, including a redesigned exterior, a revised interior layout, and a stronger focus on technology.

If launched here, it would mark the most significant update to the Hilux sold in India since its introduction.
The new Hilux retains its traditional body-on-frame pickup architecture but adopts a more upright and squared-off appearance. The front end has been redesigned with a wider stance and a larger grille, giving the pickup a more substantial road presence. The grille features a mesh-style pattern on standard versions, while the electric derivative sold in some markets uses a closed-off front panel. Slim LED headlamps flank the grille and are connected by a central trim element carrying Toyota branding. The bumper design has also been revised, while the side profile gets updated side steps and changes aimed at improving access to the cargo bed. Although the overall silhouette remains recognisable, the latest Hilux looks more contemporary than the outgoing model.
Toyota has reworked the dashboard with a cleaner layout and a stronger emphasis on digital interfaces. The centrepiece is a large touchscreen infotainment system paired with a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster. The cabin design appears more SUV-like than before, reflecting the growing demand for lifestyle-oriented pickup trucks.
The equipment list has also expanded. Depending on the market, the new Hilux offers wireless smartphone charging, multiple USB charging points, connected car functions, and updated software features. Practicality remains a key focus, but Toyota has clearly tried to make the cabin feel more modern for everyday use. Toyota has introduced multiple powertrain options for the global-spec Hilux, including diesel, hybrid, and electric variants in select regions. For India, the most likely option remains the familiar 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine, potentially with updates for efficiency and emissions compliance.
The current Hilux sold in India produces 201bhp and 500Nm when paired with the six-speed automatic gearbox. Whether Toyota introduces electrified technology here remains to be seen, though the company's increasing focus on hybrid mobility keeps the possibility open for the future.
The appearance of an undisguised test mule on Indian roads usually signals that a launch is under evaluation, if not already in advanced stages. Given the growing interest in premium lifestyle pickups and adventure-focused vehicles, Toyota could use the updated Hilux to strengthen its position in the segment.

For now, the company remains tight-lipped, but the latest sighting suggests that the next-generation Hilux may not be too far away from Indian showrooms.
