KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has expressed strong objection to the remarks made by Prime Minister Balen Shah in parliament regarding the Nepal-India border issue.
Issuing a press release on Sunday night, Nepali Congress spokesperson Dev Raj Chalise stated that the Prime Minister’s remarks were irresponsible, objectionable, and against the national interest.
The NC added that it is inexcusable for the country’s executive head to make statements contrary to national interest without any historical facts or evidence.
The statement claims that the Prime Minister’s remarks have raised questions about Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and commitment to national self-respect.
The Nepali Congress stated that it was wrong to equate the encroachment of 372 square kilometers of Nepali territory, including Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani, with minor technical issues observed in the border areas.
The NC also accused that such a statement serves to weaken Nepal’s established national stance and territorial claims.
Furthermore, the Nepali Congress objected to the Prime Minister’s claim that dialogue is also ongoing with the UK regarding the border issue.
