Missouri Amateur set to begin today – Jefferson City News Tribune



The Jefferson City area will have five golfers competing in today’s opening round of the 119th Missouri Amateur Championship at Milburn Country Club in Kansas City.
Jefferson City will have three representatives in Blake Meredith, Davis Linhardt and Dawson Schnieders.
Meredith, a Capital City graduate, tees off at 8:10 a.m. today on the 350-yard par four first hole. Meredith advanced ti the Missouri Amateur after finishing sixth in the qualifier at Country Club of Missouri in Columbia. He shot an even-par 72 in his qualifying round. In his qualifying round, he made four birdies, 11 pars, two bogeys and a double-bogey.
Lindhardt, a Helias graduate, will begin his Missouri Amateur at 12:50 p.m. on the first hole.
Linhardt qualified for the Amateur after finishing in a tie for eighth at the qualifier held at Country Club of Missouri. He shot a 3-over 75 in the round to qualify. During his qualifying round he made three birdies, 11 pars, three bogeys and a triple-bogey.
Schnieders, a Helias graduate, is also making his debut in the Missouri Amateur Championship. He begins his championship on hole No. 10 a 418 yard par 4. Schnieders participated in the last chance qualifier June 11 at Oak Meadow Country Club in Rolla. In order to advance you needed to finish in the top four.
Schnieders tied for first after shooting an even-par 70. He made one eagle, two birdies, 11 pars and four bogeys in his qualifying round.
Westphalia’s Ty Brandt is also competing in the Missouri Amateur. He will begin competition on Hole 10 at 2:10 p.m. Brandt qualified after a third-place finish at the qualifier held at The Falls Golf Club in O’Fallon.
During Brandt’s qualifying round, he finished in a tie for third at 1-under 70. He made five birdies, nine pars and four bogeys in his qualifying round.
Eli Cummings of Eldon qualified for the Missouri Amateur after finishing in a tie for sixth in the June 1 qualifier held at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield. He fired a 1-under 70 to qualify. During the round he made four birdies, 11 pars and three bogeys.
He begins competition in the championship at 8:20 a.m. today teeing off on hole No. 10.
Last year’s winner of the Missouri Amateur — Chad Niezing of Manchester — will begin his repeat bid at 9:20 a.m. today when he tees off on the first hole.
The Missouri Amateur will feature two 18-hole qualifying rounds and the top 32 golfers will qualify for the match-play portion of the championship.
