At Minecraft Live at Twitchcon Rotterdam this weekend, new updates were shared about the upcoming sequel to the Minecraft Movie.
The cast and production are now back on set, and it’s been confirmed the sequel is now officially titled A Minecraft Movie Squared. Here’s a look at the official logo reveal:
Next up are some new cast member introductions. After teasing Alex in the first movie, it’s now been revealed she will be played by the American actress Kirsten Dunst.
One other person officially revealed was English actor Matt Berry, who appeared as a villager in the first movie.

Mojang has announced an in-game “build challenge”, with the winning build appearing in the movie, or the end credits of the movie.
All you need to do is build something on the movie build challenge map. Mojang will then select the finalists, and the community will make the final decision. You can find out more details on Minecraft’s website.

I like the title… "squared" great silly pun!

Nice, happy for those who get to work on this sequel (and good luck to those taking part in the build challenge) – hope people interested in it will enjoy it and who knows, maybe I'll watch the original first and then this myself, too!

Interesting. It looks pretty obvious to me that they're planning a trilogy of movies and the third one will be called A Minecraft Movie Cubed. Also, it's hard not to notice that Emma Myers and Sebastian Hansen did not appear in the video, implying that their characters may not be returning.

Ah, Kirsten Dunst. Haven't seen her since the first couple Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies (never did see the third one), as well as playing Hedril and an illusory Kestra Troi in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Dark Page." It'll be interesting to see how she plays Alex.

Aight well lemme know when the thrilogy is over so I can go back to forgetting about it 😆

@Sindayl Lol if movies being good were the metric for sequels getting made, we’d live in an extremely different world. The first movie made a billion dollars, this is exactly the kind of movie I expected a sequel for.
@AstroTheGamosian If I may be so bold, do yourself a favor & watch Fargo season 2. I love all the seasons of that show but it’s an anthology series & she’s one of the main characters in the second season. It’s a crime drama just like the movie, if that interests you at all.

The first movie is totally dumb but kind of in a good way. If you just want a mindless bit of fun and randomness, it fits the bill.

As the first film was "A Minecraft Movie" I had assumed that the next one would be "Another Minecraft Movie"

The first one, while being just a bit of mindless fun, was actually pretty good, and I do want to own a physical copy of it. So I am interested in seeing how the sequel turns out.

I overheard someone’s conversation recently, where they were telling someone about a new(er) Final Fantasy game. They described it as “Minecraft on steroids.” Now, I’ve never really played Minecraft, but… ???
