Enjoy Wednesday’s highs in the 80s across most of North Carolina while you can. It will be the coolest afternoon for quite a while.
Hot and humid conditions are set to build across the state through the rest of the week leading to a very hot weekend.
Highs will soar well into the 90s in most spots away from the mountains for Saturday and Sunday.
The humidity will make it feel even hotter.
When the heat index is over 100, we can all become more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.
If you have outdoor chores to do this weekend, it would be best to plan for those in the morning to avoid the hottest part of the day.
Widespread rain is not expected through the weekend. However, the hot and humid weather could fuel scattered late afternoon and evening storms. A few could become strong with powerful wind gusts, downpours and frequent lightning.
This weekend appears to be just the start of a long stretch of very hot weather for the Carolinas.
The long range outlook suggests we can expect hotter than normal conditions through next week and into the upcoming 4th of July weekend.
