The Delhi government has stepped up its action against illegal buildings, encroachments, and violations of safety rules across the city. Since 1st of June, authorities have demolished 94 properties and sealed 114 others for breaking building bylaws and other regulations.
On Saturday, 6th June, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government is following a zero-tolerance policy towards unauthorised construction and fire safety violations. She added that strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible for such violations, including officials, if any connection between them and builders is discovered.
The crackdown gained momentum after the 3rd June fire tragedy, which took place in Malviya Nagar. Since that incident, authorities have demolished 63 buildings and sealed 97 others across Delhi.
The highest number of demolitions was recorded on June 3 itself, when 22 buildings were razed. The largest sealing drive took place on 6th June, when 79 properties were sealed in a single day.
Officials from the Revenue Department have inspected 124 sites spread across Delhi’s 13 districts. The South district, which includes Malviya Nagar, saw the maximum inspections, with officials visiting 30 locations. Out of these, 11 properties were sealed, and 19 show-cause notices were issued.
According to the government’s daily action report, authorities demolished 12 properties and sealed 79 others on Saturday alone. During the past week, officials issued 33 demolition orders and 41 show-cause notices related to property sealing.
The figures reflect the Delhi government’s ongoing campaign against illegal constructions and encroachments in different parts of the city.
Along with enforcement measures, the Delhi government is also working on a long-term strategy to stop such violations from recurring. According to an official release, the administration is considering a third-party insurance framework for buildings and public-use establishments.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has also strengthened its drive against illegal construction and encroachments on its land. During a recent high-level review meeting, officials examined the current enforcement system and discussed ways to make it more effective.
The DDA Vice Chairman directed the Building Department to identify structures with major deviations from approved building plans and take strict action against them. Officials said the aim is not only to remove illegal buildings but also to create a stronger system that prevents unauthorised construction and safety violations in the future.
