Algeria are taking on Austria at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City today as Group J concludes at the 2026 World Cup.
Either team would advance to the knockout stage with a win, while a draw would see both progress at the expense of Iran.
Argentina are leading Jordan 2-0 in the first half in Texas in Group J's other game.
45+2' Algeria 1-1 Austria
Austria very nearly got the goal back!
Seiwald got the ball at his feet in the box but was blocked by Chaibi, and then a header from Arnautovic looked promising but was saved by Benbot.
This game has really opened up now!
A corner flag assist in a World Cup game. This tournament has it all.
45' Algeria 1-1 Austria
That may be one of the better goals I’ve seen in this entire tournament! The ball stayed in off a touch from Riyad Mahrez thanks to the corner flag, and then after Mahrez went down, Rafik Belghali made an incredible run past multiple defenders into the box and shot into the top corner past Alexander Schlager, who could do nothing there!
A BEAUTY FROM BELGHALI 🇩🇿

44' Algeria 0-1 Austria
Phenomenal save by Alexander Schlager after the ball fell kindly to Maza right in front of the six-yard box and he looked to volley it in off his left. But Schlager played it perfectly and smothered it.
I’m blown away by the quality of the shooting all round in the group stages. They’re loving this ball.
42' Algeria 0-1 Austria
Much more promising stuff from Algeria! Riyad Mahrez tries to loop one into the box, but it’s cleared. Then he decides to shoot himself, but it’s blocked.
Remember, Algeria trailed in their last game, too, against Jordan before coming back for a 2-1 win.
40' Algeria 0-1 Austria
So nearly the moment for Algeria!
Fares Chaibi gets some space to shoot off his left foot and does so with tremendous pace — but it hits the woodwork!
Well, I've just been educated. When they were playing "Mr. Brightside" during the hydration break, there were some chants from the crowd.
One of the journalists nearby has just informed me this was the unmistakable sound of University of Missouri students/fans putting their own familiar twist on The Killers' by chanting, “F— K.U.”, a none-too-friendly reference to the University of Kansas — who have gone viral for their gracious hosting of Algeria, whose base camp is at the university.
So the local college football rivalry has made it to the World Cup stage. Every day is a school day, as they say.

33' Algeria 0-1 Austria
More nervy moments for Algeria. Laimer comes screaming down the right again, and Benbot does not neatly save it before an important bicycle-kick clearance from Bensebaini.
32' Algeria 0-1 Austria
Needless to say, Algeria really trying to press for a goal now!
Right wing-back Rafik Belghali makes a great move into the box and tries his luck from a tough angle, but can't hit the target.
32' Algeria 0-1 Austria
Austria really on the front foot now! Arnautovic looked like he nearly had his second goal, but flashed it just wide of the target and the offside flag was up anyway.
Laimer then played one into the box and tried to cut one across for Arnautovic, but this time Benbot read it well and jumped on the ball.
Well, that puts to bed the playing for a draw theory. Which is for the best.
Marko Arnautovic does not do compromises. We should have known.
29' Algeria 0-1 Austria
A perfectly-timed run from Marko Arnautovic! He connects with a beautiful long ball from David Alaba. It’s not a great touch, but Algeria keeper Oussama Benbot plays too passively and the 37-year-old Austria striker gets his first World Cup goal.
28' Algeria 0-1 Austria
Marko Arnautovic delivers!

27' Algeria 0-0 Austria
Algeria are struggling to get any good chances in the box… Fares Chaibi tries his luck from deep but is well wide of the far post.
23' Algeria 0-0 Austria
We’ve reached the hydration break. More boos from the fans, though I’m not sure whether it’s for the lack of action as this match has tightened up, for the hydration break, or for both.
We have just had some boos and whistles from the crowd in response to a period of sterile possession from Austria, passing the ball around very slowly at the back. It was unclear whether the boos were from Algerian fans, frustrated by their opponents, or from neutrals who are unimpressed by what they’re seeing.
Either way, no real chances so far and, as it stands, we're on course for a draw that would send both teams through.
20' Algeria 0-0 Austria
Algeria finally breaks some sustained pressure, but then an important clearance from Lienhart snuffs out the Algeria counter.
Austria with more possession now, content to hang back and probe.
