Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday shared pictures from the G7 meet in France, one of them showing him posing for a picture alongside global leaders like US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
“With fellow leaders at the G7 Summit in Evian. We will keep working together to advance prosperity, sustainability and human well-being,” PM Modi captioned the post. Follow live updates on the G7 meet here.
PM Modi was also seen interacting with Trump on the sidelines of the G7 meet. The leaders’ meeting also assumes significance in light of a trade agreement being negotiated upon by India and the US.
The leaders were seen shaking hands and sitting next to each other at the roundtable. The leaders last met in February 2025 in Washington.
The Tuesday meeting comes a year after Trump first claimed credit for brokering peace between India and Pakistan following three days of conflict in May 2025 after the launch of Operation Sindoor. The US President has repeated the assertion many times since then, and India has rejected it every time, staying firm on its stance that the truce was reached without any third party intervention.
It also comes at time when India has lodged strong protest with the US over the killing of Indian sailors in strikes in the Gulf of Oman amid the ongoing Iran war.
Other world leaders PM Modi met were European Council President Antonio Costa, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
As leaders arrived to pose for a customary picture at the G7 Summit, PM Modi interacted with many of them. Among them was Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni, with whom he shared a laugh, as seen in a now viral video.
“Glad to see you again,” Meloni was heard telling Modi as he mumbled something in response. Instagram was also mentioned during the chat, weeks after a post made by Meloni garnered over 13 million views on the platform.
In the video, the Italian PM said, “PM Modi brought us a gift. It is Melody,” while holding the pack of chocolates. “Thank you for the gift,” she wrote as caption. This was during their last meet in Rome in May.
The two-day G7 summit in Evian, France is the eighth such event where India has been invited. Before departing for Europe, PM Modi had stated he will be using the platform at the G7 Summit to raise the “aspirations of the Global South.”

“India’s presence at the G7 reflects the trust our partners place in us and our growing global profile. This is the 8th consecutive G7 Summit to which India has been invited. At the G7, India will not only speak for itself, but it will also give voice to the aspirations of the Global South,” Modi wrote in an official statement.
