A commercial vessel carrying Indian crew members coming under attack near Oman’s Shinas Port on Thursday. The escalating conflict involving the United States and Iran has once again put Indian sailors at risk.
The vessel, MT Jalveer, carrying 20 Indian sailors, was reportedly attacked in waters near the Omani coast. A video circulating online shows thick smoke billowing from the ship following the incident. According to initial reports, the attack triggered a fire in the vessel’s chimney and engine room.
The Indian Embassy in Oman confirmed the incident, stating that it is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local authorities. Officials added that all 20 Indian crew members onboard MT Jalveer are safe.
The latest incident is the third attack on an Indian-crewed commercial vessel in the past three days, highlighting growing security concerns in the region. Authorities have not yet identified the perpetrators behind the latest strike. Earlier, the United States had acknowledged attacks involving two other commercial ships operating in the area.
Meanwhile, India has strongly condemned another recent attack on the commercial vessel Setebelo off the Omani coast. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that 21 of the 24 Indian crew members aboard the vessel have been rescued safely, while three Indian nationals who were previously missing have now been declared dead.
In an official statement, the MEA said it strongly condemns the attack and noted that the Indian Embassy in Oman remains in constant contact with local authorities while monitoring ongoing search and rescue operations.
The ministry expressed deep concern over the repeated attacks on commercial shipping in the region, stating that they are a direct consequence of the ongoing conflict. India also urged all parties involved to immediately de-escalate tensions and work toward a diplomatic resolution to restore peace and stability in the region.
