Chris Feifs’ tenure in Vermont has come to a close.
The two-time America East champion announced on Wednesday that he is departing the Vermont men’s lacrosse team after 10 seasons, landing a job with the Virginia Cavaliers as the associate head coach and defensive coordinator.
“It has been a privilege to work with you and to be a part of your lives while wearing the Green and Gold and beyond. To my coaches and support staff, you’ve carried me for 10 years and allowed me to live my dream every day,” Feifs said through a statement issued by UVM’s athletic department.
Sources tell NBC5 that Feifs was growing weary of wintry training conditions and UVM’s inability to build a dome (indoor turf). Over the last two seasons, UVM has had multiple early-season games moved from Virtue Field to an indoor turf in New Hampshire with no fans and no ESPN+ stream, due to unplayable wintry conditions in Burlington.
Sources also tell NBC5 that there is support to build a dome, with multiple undisclosed groups having money at the ready, while the location remains the holdup.
This is a breaking news situation, and we will update this article as we learn more.
