A major update has emerged from West Bengal politics, where five people have been arrested in connection with the alleged attack on Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee. The incident took place in Sonarpur, near Kolkata, when Banerjee was visiting supporters’ residences. During the visit, a mob allegedly surrounded him and attempted to attack him by throwing eggs and engaging in physical confrontation, creating chaos in the area. His security personnel managed to safely evacuate him from the spot. Following the incident, disturbing visuals went viral on social media, triggering a strong political reaction. Police acted on CCTV and video footage to identify and detain the accused. According to officials, the arrests were made after thorough verification of visual evidence, and further investigation is underway to identify others involved. While TMC initially alleged political motivation behind the attack, police sources have stated that so far no confirmed political affiliation of the arrested individuals has been found, though local tensions in the area are being examined as part of the probe.
