DGS confirms safe evacuation as maritime tensions rise in key global energy corridor
Punjab Newsline | Tel Aviv
All 24 Indian crew members aboard an oil tanker were safely evacuated after a fire broke out near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, Indian authorities confirmed on Monday.

According to the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), the incident occurred while the vessel was navigating waters close to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints. In recent months, the region has witnessed multiple attacks on commercial vessels, raising global security concerns.

Officials said the crew was evacuated as a precaution immediately after the fire was reported on board. No injuries or casualties have been reported among the Indian sailors. The DGS confirmed that all 24 crew members are safe and are being provided necessary assistance.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with relevant maritime agencies. While there is speculation regarding possible involvement of the US Navy, no official confirmation has been made so far.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a vital global energy route through which large volumes of crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) are transported worldwide. Any disruption in this corridor often has significant implications for global energy supply chains, especially amid ongoing regional instability.
