Blaze erupts in basement of Flourish Stay Hotel in Malviya Nagar's Hauz Rani area; rescue operation continues as authorities investigate cause of fire.

A devastating fire broke out at Flourish Stay Hotel in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area on Wednesday morning, leaving at least 21 people dead and several injured. The incident occurred in the Hauz Rani locality, triggering a massive emergency response from the Delhi Fire Service.
According to officials, information about the fire was received at around 8:50 AM, following which 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Firefighters launched an extensive rescue operation and managed to bring the blaze under control after several hours of effort. Fire department teams remain stationed at the site.
Preliminary reports suggest that the fire originated in the restaurant’s basement. Several people trapped inside were rescued in critical condition and shifted to Max Hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that 20 people have lost their lives, while others sustained injuries.

Expressing grief over the tragedy, the Prime Minister conveyed his condolences through a post on X. He described the loss of lives as deeply saddening and extended sympathies to the bereaved families. He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured and assured that the administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected.
The Prime Minister further announced financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). An ex-gratia amount of ₹2 lakh will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased victim, while the injured will receive ₹50,000 each.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Somnath Bharti said in a post on X that a massive fire broke out in a multi-storey building in Hauz Rani at around 8:30 a.m. He expressed concern over possible casualties and stated that several foreign nationals, primarily South African citizens, may have been trapped inside the building.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire, and further details are awaited.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also expressed sorrow over the tragedy, offering condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. She prayed for strength and courage for all those affected by the heartbreaking incident.
The incident adds to a series of major fire accidents witnessed in the national capital in recent years, once again raising concerns over fire safety standards in commercial establishments.
