Modesto Fire Department and CHP responded to Ladd Road, east of Tully Road, near Del Rio after 9:30 p.m. to find a three-vehicle crash with one vehicle on fire.
CHP said a preliminary investigation indicates a 2026 Porsche coupe was driving westbound on Ladd Road “at a high rate of speed” approaching the rear of a 2016 Ram pick-up truck, which was traveling in the same direction. A 2023 Mercedes SUV was driving eastbound on Ladd Road and approaching the Porsche and Ram truck.

The Porsche then became engulfed in flames and blocked the roadway. The crash prompted road closures for several hours on Saturday night, CHP said.

CHP said the driver of the Porsche, identified as a 57-year-old man from Modesto, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger of the Porsche, 38-year-old Jon Burgess, of Manteca, had major injuries and was taken to UC Davis Medical Center, Both Burgess and the Porsche were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to CHP.
