(WFSB) – Users on X are exploiting the platform’s free AI tool Grok to digitally undress women online, creating explicit images without consent in just seconds.
The AI chatbot responds to public requests on X to generate sexualized images of women, creating potentially thousands of nonconsensual photos daily. The images are sometimes posted publicly for everyone to see.
“You’ve created a recipe for widespread harm,” said Dr. Vahid Behzadan, Professor of Computer Science and Artificial intelligence, University of New Haven
He says that the concerning use of the tool even extends to minors.
“Unfortunately there have been reports of synthetically altered nude photos of minors on X, using Grok and that’s very alarming,” he said.
In Louisiana last year, AI-generated nude images depicting a 13-year-old girl circulated around her middle school.
Two boys who were her classmates were charged. The girl was expelled after she attacked one of the boys in retaliation.
It is not clear if there have been any cases happening in Connecticut.
The issue has prompted women to post on X saying they don’t consent to being undressed by Grok and will potentially take legal action.
Congress passed the Take It Down Act in May to combat nonconsensual intimate photos and deepfakes. The law requires online platforms to remove that content within two days of a victim’s report.
“This technology is so readily available, such a popular platform, it’s still a major cause for concern,” continued Behzaden
Since October 1, posting nonconsensual AI-generated intimate images or deepfakes became illegal, with potential charges for creators and distributors. This allows police and prosecutors to take action.
