Westlake Police help 75-year-old man struggling in the heat while being scammed for Apple gift cards – Cleveland 19 News

WESTLAKE, Ohio (WOIO) – The Westlake Police Department assisted a man waiting at a bus stop in the heat on his way to buy Apple gift cards for scammers on Thursday.
According to a report from Westlake Police, at around 3:28 a.m., an officer noticed a man at the bus stop near Hilliard Road and Crocker Road having issues with the heat.
Temperatures reached triple digits in some parts of Northeast Ohio on Thursday.
The man had taken three buses to get to the Hilliard Road and Crocker Road stop.
The man told police he was on his way to buy Apple gift cards for his friend, and the officer immediately knew the 75-year-old man from Cleveland was being scammed.
The man later admitted that he did not really know the people telling him to buy the gift cards
Luckily, Apple Store employees did not allow the man to buy the gift cards and had also informed him that he was being defrauded.
While waiting for EMS, the officer had the man sit in the Westlake Police cruiser to cool down.
The man was later taken to University Hospitals St. John Medical Center for heat-related symptoms.
