U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday (June 11, 2026) he has called off new military strikes on Iran, hours after threatening to escalate the war. The President said in a social media post that he made the move “based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved”.
Earlier on Thursday (June 11, 2026), Mr. Trump said that the U.S. will strike Iran “very hard”, adding that “At some point in the not too distant future, we will be taking Kharg Island, and other oil infrastructure points, and assume total control of their Oil and Gas Markets”.

A day after the U.S. forces attacked tanker Settebello, another vessel, MV Jalveer, was attacked under similar circumstances near Oman on Thursday (June 11, 2026). This is the third such incident in four days. MV Jalveer is a Guinea-Bissau flagged asphalt tanker. All three ‌missing Indian seafarers have died ⁠after a U.S. military strike on ‌a tanker in the ‌Gulf of ‌Oman, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said on Thursday (June 11, 2026). India had summoned the U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission after lodging ⁠a “strong protest” against the strike. 
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday (June 11) he believes Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has personally approved a deal to end the war.
“I understand the answer is yes,” Mr. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office when asked if Khamenei gave the nod. He added that the agreement in question was a “very strong memorandum of understanding.”- AFP
U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday (June 11) announced a “great settlement” with Iran to end the war, saying he expected a deal to be signed in Europe in the coming days.
“We just made a great settlement of the war with Iran,” Mr. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, saying that they would “subject to finalisation of documents, which should get done, over the next few days, probably have a signing, maybe in Europe.”- AFP
Mr. Trump says U.S.’s attacks on Iran has been cancelled after discussions with Iran.
“Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening. Discussions and final points have been, in both concept and great detail, approved by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and others. The Naval Blockade will remain in full force and effect until this Transaction is finalized — Time and place of the signing to be announced shortly,” Mr. Trump said.
Iran’s top military commander warned that any renewed U.S. attacks on his country would trigger a tougher response and plunge the wider region into a new round of instability.
General Ali Abdollahi, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, warned in a statement that “if the United States once again seeks to carry out attacks against heroic Iran, it will receive a harsher response than before, and the flames of war, in addition to creating insecurity in the region, will become more widespread and far-reaching”.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is “deeply concerned” by ‌the continued escalation in West Asia, including strikes by the United ‌States on Iran and ‌Iranian strikes on its ‌neighbours, ⁠a UN ⁠spokesperson said today.
“He urges the ‌parties to return to the full implementation of the ‌ceasefire and avoid any further deterioration, which, ⁠as he told the Security Council yesterday, ‌could trigger a full resumption of the conflict, with unpredictable consequences for the ‌region and the world, especially the most vulnerable countries,” ⁠the spokesperson said.

A strike wounded 10 staff members of a hospital in the Lebanese city of Tyre today, the facility’s director told AFP, as Israeli raids continue in the country’s south.
All three of the historic city’s hospitals have been hit since the start of the latest war between Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah and Israel in early March.
“An area located around 15 metres (50 feet) from the hospital was targeted, and 10 members of the medical and administrative staff were wounded,” said Dr. Salman Aydibi, who runs Hiram hospital.
He said the strike shattered windows and damaged cars parked in front of the facility.
“This is the sixth time that the area of the hospital has been targeted by Israeli raids since the start of the war,” he said.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent vowed to use Iranian funds to pay for damages that Iran causes on Gulf allies, warning of sharp economic consequences from Tehran’s attacks.
“Any damage it inflicts on our allies in the Gulf will be paid for with funds extracted from Iranian Accounts,” Mr. Bessent wrote on X.
The head of National Security Committee in Iran’s Parliament responds to Trump’s threats of an attack on Iran and said that he will receive a “stronger and more painful” response.

The World Bank today lowered its global growth forecast to its lowest level since the pandemic, warning of the expanding economic impacts of the war in West Asia on countries around the globe.
Worldwide growth is now forecast to drop to 2.5% in 2026, from 2.9% a year earlier, with headline inflation averaging 4%, the multilateral lender said in its Global Economic Prospects report.

U.S. forces struck and disabled a third commercial oil tanker attempting to bypass their blockade of Iranian ports this week, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said today, adding that it was the ninth such attack since the blockade began.
American forces “acted against Guinea-Bissau flagged M/T Jalveer as it attempted to transport oil from Iran through the Gulf of Oman,” CENTCOM said. “A US aircraft fired two Hellfire missiles into the ship’s engine room after the crew repeatedly failed to comply with directions from US forces.”

The OPEC today ⁠lowered its forecast for world oil demand growth ‌in 2026 to 970,000 ‌barrels per day, a ‌copy ⁠of its ⁠monthly report showed, marking the second straight downward revision.
The ‌producer group continues to see a smaller impact on consumption ‌since the Iran war started than other ⁠forecasters such as the U.S. Energy Information ‌Administration and the International Energy Agency. A tanker near the blockaded Strait of Hormuz suffered a fire in its engine room, a marine monitoring agency said on Thursday (June 11, 2026), without revealing the cause of the blaze.
“Local authorities have reported a tanker has experienced a fire in the engine room,” United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said.
The incident happened 21 nautical miles northeast of Sohar in Oman, it added.

Saudi Arabia condemned on Thursday overnight (June 11, 2026) Iranian attacks on Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait and called for renewed negotiations under Pakistani and Qatari mediation to end the war in West Asia.
In a statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry called for “de-escalation and restraint, urging all parties to prioritise wisdom by returning to diplomatic efforts and resuming the constructive negotiations sponsored by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, along with the efforts of the State of Qatar”.

Iran’s new body overseeing the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday (July 11, 2026) confirmed a complete closure order for the strategic waterway until further notice after the Revolutionary Guards announced the move overnight.
“Due to the tensions caused by the aggression of the American forces in the region and the announcement made last night by the Iranian armed forces, the Strait of Hormuz will be closed until further notice,” the Persian Gulf Strait Authority said in a post on X.
“Applicants who have been granted a transit permit are asked to be patient and wait for instructions from the PGSA.”

Türkiye, on Thursday (June 11, 2026), called on the United States and Iran to halt their new round of attacks, saying it risked an “escalation” in the war in West Asia.
“The reciprocal attacks that began two days ago raise fears of an escalation,” Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told a press conference during a visit to Sofia. “We recommend that the parties halt their mutual attacks and resume negotiations.”

Water supply to villages in southern Iran has been restored after U.S. strikes hit reservoirs, state television reported on Thursday (June 11, 2026), in what Iranian officials described as a “war crime”.
Water and desalination facilities, particularly in southern Iran and across its Gulf neighbours, have been among the most critical and vulnerable infrastructure targets since the outbreak of the war between Iran, Israel and the United States on February 28.

China on Thursday (June 11, 2026) “strongly” urged an immediate halt to military operations in West Asia, as the United States launched fresh attacks on Iran.
“China strongly urges the relevant parties to immediately cease military operations, return to dialogue and negotiation, respond to the mediation efforts of relevant countries, and achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire as soon as possible,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told a regular press conference in response to a question about the situation in West Asia.

Three more liquefied natural gas tankers have exited the Strait of Hormuz with their transponders off and are bound ‌for destinations in Asia, although the exact timing of their transit is ⁠unclear, ship-tracking data from LSEG and Kpler showed.
QatarEnergy-controlled tankers Lebrethah and Rasheeda were last seen west of the strait ‌on June 1 and April 30 respectively, carrying cargoes loaded at Ras Laffan, according to the data.
Including Lebrethah, Rasheeda and Marigold, a total of 12 LNG cargoes have exited ‌the Strait of Hormuz since the war started at end-February.

Qatari negotiators have departed Tehran following discussions on the war in West Asia, a diplomat told AFP on Thursday (June 11, 2026), as the U.S. and Iran traded strikes once more.
“The Qatari delegation departed from Tehran this morning following talks with Iranian officials… that lasted into the early hours of this morning,” the diplomat said on condition of anonymity, adding the discussions were “conducted in coordination with the United States”.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned on Thursday (June 11, 2026) the latest U.S. strikes on the country, saying the attacks rendered the nearly two-month ceasefire “practically meaningless”.
In a statement, the Ministry said “the illegal and criminal attacks perpetrated by the United States in recent hours not only constitute a flagrant violation… but also render the ceasefire practically meaningless”.

Jordan’s military said on Thursday (June 11, 2026) it had intercepted 20 missiles launched from Iran after Tehran’s Revolutionary Guards announced they had fired at a U.S. command centre in the kingdom.
“At dawn on Thursday, Jordanian air defence systems and the Royal Jordanian Air Force intercepted and shot down 20 missiles that had been launched from Iran towards the Azraq area in Zarqa governorate,” a statement quoted a military official as saying, referring to an area about 80 kilometres (50 miles) east of Amman.
“The interception resulted in the fall of a number of fragments, without any human casualties or material damage,” the statement added.

An Iranian cargo barge ‌was hit by a U.S. ⁠projectile in the Gulf of ‌Oman early on Thursday (June 11, 2026), ‌the Iranian ‌governor ⁠of Sirik ⁠county said, according to Mehr news agency.
The 150-tonne ‌cargo barge, owned by locals from Sirik ‌and carrying essential goods from the Omani ⁠port of Khasab, was ‌hit about 5 nautical miles off Khasab, the Iranian official ‌said, adding that all five crew members were ⁠rescued by passing vessels ⁠and taken to Oman.

U.S. strikes overnight Thursday (June 11, 2026) on Iran wounded at least three people at sites in the Tehran province, Iranian media reported.
“Three people were injured in incidents related to the brutal U.S. attacks in Tehran province,” said head of the province’s emergency services Mohammad Esmail Tavakoli, according to the Fars news agency.
The strikes were largely focused on southern Iran but the country’s Revolutionary Guards said other sites near the capital were hit, including in Karaj, Nazarabad and Pishva.

Three ships with Indian crews attacked near Oman in four days, raising concerns amid rising tensions in the region.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said Thursday (June 11, 2026) the country’s leaders were still engaged in mediation efforts to end the U.S.-Iran war despite a surge in conflict, calling for a “negotiated settlement”.
“It is hard to be an optimist in the new exchange of hostilities. We haven’t lost hope; we remain engaged,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Tahir Andrabi told journalists.
“Let’s not draw curtains on Pakistan’s mediation approach,” he added.
“Pakistan remains deeply concerned at the situation in the region marked by recent escalation. We are of the view that diplomacy and dialogue should be the guiding principles for achieving a negotiated settlement of all contentious issues,” Mr. Andrabi said.

The U.S. military said early on Thursday (June 11, 2026) that that it had “completed” its latest round of airstrikes targeting Iran, after President Donald Trump warned that Tehran would “pay the price” for stalled negotiations. The escalating attacks threatened to derail efforts to end the war.
The U.S. Central Command issued a statement saying its forces targeted “Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communication systems and air defense sites across Iran”. It did not elaborate on the damage done by the strikes, which it said had been carried out by the U.S. Air Force, Marines and Navy.

No U.S. ⁠warships have been struck in the Strait ‌of Hormuz, the U.S. ‌military said ‌on ⁠Wednesday (June 10), after Iran’s ⁠state media said initial reports indicated U.S. ships near the ‌strait were targeted by missile and drones launched ‌by Iranian armed forces.

Oil prices climbed more than $2 ⁠a barrel on Thursday (June 11) as Iran declared the critical energy chokepoint, the Strait of Hormuz, closed after the U.S. launched additional strikes against ‌Iran.
Brent futures rose $2.30, or 2.47%, to $95.40 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude climbed $2.60, or ‌2.89%, to $92.63. U.S. crude futures gained more than $3 ‌earlier ⁠in the session.
Iran’s top joint military command ⁠announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, including oil tankers and commercial ships, saying any vessel that will attempt passage will be shot at.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said on Thursday (June 11) that they had struck bases in Kuwait and Bahrain in response to the latest U.S. strikes.
“During two waves of operations, eighteen important targets belonging to the US Army in the bases of Ali and Ahmad Ahmad Air Force [were hit],” the Guards said in a statement quoted by state-run IRNA, adding that they also “hit and destroyed Sheikh Isa air bases”.
Iranian media earlier reported that Iran had attacked the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
