BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – WBRC 6 News, the Gray Television station serving Central Alabama, announced today that Carlyn McCreary will join the WBRC 6 News team as a First Alert Meteorologist starting June 2026.
Carlyn grew up in Kentucky before earning her bachelor’s degree in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma. While at the University of Oklahoma, she was part of OU Nightly, the top-ranked student-led newscast. During her time reporting the weather on campus, Carlyn became an award-winning student reporter.
Carlyn has experienced severe weather firsthand: she lived through a house fire caused by lightning, watched devastating floods demolish her grandparents’ home in Kentucky in 2022, and witnessed several tornadoes near her college campus.
When Carlyn is not forecasting, she enjoys playing tennis and pickleball, listening to yacht rock, and spending time with family and friends. She is also passionate about helping people of all ages manage storm anxiety.
“Carlyn brings a strong forecasting background, a passion for storytelling, and a genuine commitment to serving viewers. Dependable weather coverage is the most important promise we make to our audience, and she is a great fit for the First Alert Weather Team. We look forward to our viewers getting to know her and seeing the impact she’ll have across Central Alabama,” said WBRC 6 News Director, Shannon Maze.
Carlyn’s addition brings the WBRC 6 News First Alert Weather Team back to seven meteorologists, making it the largest weather department in Alabama.
