RCMP confirmed that one person was dead and another was seriously injured in a shooting near Pelican Narrows' Angelique Canada health centre.
A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting and dangerous person alert was arrested by Saskatchewan RCMP following an hours-long search in and around Pelican Narrows.
According to an RCMP release sent out just before 9 p.m. Monday, the suspect was taken into custody shortly after 7 p.m. at a residence in the northern Saskatchewan community, nearly five hours after the dangerous person alert was issued.
The alert was in place for Pelican Narrows and 22 surrounding areas, including nearby Deschambault Lake. RCMP on Monday night confirmed that one person was dead and another was seriously injured in a shooting near Pelican Narrows’ Angelique Canada health centre.
“We are not providing more identification details about these two individuals at this time. No other injuries have been reported to police in relation to this incident,” RCMP said in a news release.
Police had asked residents to find a safe place, lock their doors and stay away from the suspect, who was considered dangerous.
The alert, issued Monday afternoon, initially indicated that the shooting had happened at the health centre. In an updated news release, RCMP clarified that it happened near the health centre around 2 p.m.
“The incident did not occur at the clinic as initially reported,” police said.
No further information about the suspect or his charges was made public as of Monday night.
