Trump Latest News Today: Donald Trump sparked a new wave of debate after he made an offhand joke about an Indian journalist’s appearance during a White House press briefing in the Oval Office. The interaction took place as the journalist asked a question related to India–US relations, but Trump’s comments quickly shifted attention away from policy discussion and toward his personal remarks, drawing strong reactions across social media and political circles.
President Donald Trump addressed reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday when a journalist from India asked a question about his ties with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The exchange initially followed routine political questioning before Trump made an unexpected remark about the reporter’s appearance and origin.
🚨 LMFAO! President Trump to reporter with a thick Indian accent: “Are you from India? I thought you were from GERMANY!”
“I’m only kidding. You’re central casting, OK? That’s a very good thing.”

As the journalist began speaking, Trump interrupted with a comment that surprised many in the room. “Are you from India, by any chance? Huh? I thought you were from Germany?” he stated with an unpleasant smile.
“I was only kidding,” he quickly added after the journalist confirmed his Indian origin.
Trump then continued the interaction in a tone that drew further attention. “You’re Central Casting,” Trump tells an Indian journalist.
Persisting with the uncomfortable subject and not fully addressing the journalist’s inquiry, Trump commented, “You’re Central Casting. That’s a good thing.”
The phrase “Central Casting” refers to someone who fits a stereotypical or idealised image of a role, often used in film or television casting. Trump frequently uses this expression in public appearances to describe individuals he believes represent a “typical” look or authoritative presence.
In this case, critics argued that the remark reduced the journalist’s identity to appearance-based assumptions, shifting attention away from the political question.
Trump’s comments quickly circulated online, where users expressed strong disagreement and criticism. Many accused him of making insensitive or inappropriate remarks during a formal press interaction.
“Racism at best.”
“Another set of meaningless statements.”
“Racist talk,”
“Elitist Trump behaving like Nazi Supermacist, he will be a bigger stupidity for the US,”
“They have elected a joker as a president. Understandably, he makes such statements,”
This is not the first time Trump has used the “Central Casting” phrase in a political context. In May, he applied similar language while discussing Chinese President Xi Jinping during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.
“If you went to Hollywood and looked for a leader of China to play a role in a movie, he’s Central Casting.”
He further suggested that Xi carried the appearance and presence expected of a national leader, a comment that also triggered debate at the time.
