India ushered in its 77th Republic Day on Monday (January 26, 2026) with a grand display of its cultural diversity, economic growth, and military prowess that included missiles, warplanes, newly-raised units and lethal weapon systems used during Operation Sindoor. President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, graced the celebrations as chief guests, marking a significant diplomatic moment alongside the military display. 
A report by the Switzerland-based Centre for Military History and Perspective Studies (CHPM) states that by the morning of May 10, 2025, the Indian Air Force (IAF) had achieved air superiority over significant portions of Pakistani airspace, allowing it to conduct long-range precision strikes against enemy infrastructure with relative freedom. The report that has been authored by military historian Adrien Fontanellaz, reveals that India’s ability to sustain stand-off attacks depended largely on the availability of advanced munitions such as BrahMos and SCALP-EG cruise missiles.
The United States and India share a historic bond as the world’s oldest and largest democracies, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday (January 26, 2026) as he greeted India on its 77th Republic Day celebrations. Mr. Trump’s greetings came amid continuing strain in ties between the two countries over a range of issues, including Washington’s policies on trade and tariffs.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio wished India on Republic Day, as he appreciated Quad cooperation between the countries on defence and other fronts. He said that the U.S.-India relationship delivers “real results” for the two countries through close cooperation on defence, energy, critical minerals and for the Indo-Pacific region through the Quad. The U.S. leader extended a special message to India on the country’s Republic Day, commemorated on January 26.
On the occasion of the 77th Republic Day celebrations on Monday (January 26, 2026), CPI(M) and AIKS leaders Dr. Ashok Dhawala, J.P. Gavit, former MLA, Dr. Ajit Nawale, Umesh Deshmukh and others went on a march on the Highway to Mumbai. Amidst great discipline the national flag was ceremoniously tied high to the leading truck. The crowd also gave respectful salute to the Tiranga. The long march was started on Sunday (January 25, 2026).

CRPF Assistant Commandant Simran Bala created history by commanding an all-male contingent of the paramilitary force at the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi on Monday (January 26, 2026). The 26-year-old officer who hails from Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district led the squad of 147 personnel from the country’s largest paramilitary force .The contingent marched on the tune of CRPF song ‘desh ke hum hai rakshak‘ played by the force band on the Kartavya Path.
The European Union on Monday (January 26, 2026) hit Elon Musk’s X with an investigation over AI chatbot Grok’s generation of sexualised deepfake images of women and minors, in the latest step of an international backlash against the tool. Grok faces an outcry after it emerged that users could sexualise images of women and children using simple text prompts such as “put her in a bikini” or “remove her clothes”.
