Iran’s new ‌Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, ⁠said in a ‌published written ‌message ‌on ⁠Thursday (April 30, 2026) ⁠that a new chapter for the ‌Gulf and Strait of ‌Hormuz has been taking shape since ⁠the Iran ‌war with the United States ‌and Israel broke out on February ⁠28.

The United States is pressing ahead with plans for an international coalition to open the Strait ‌of Hormuz, according to a State Department cable seen by Reuters, as oil prices surge on fears of ​lengthy disruptions to global fuel supplies.
Press freedom at lowest level in 25 years: RSF
Press freedom has fallen to its lowest level in a quarter of a century, Reporters Without Borders warned on Thursday (April 30, 2026). “For the first time in the (RSF) Index’s 25-year history, more than half the world’s countries now fall into the ‘difficult’ or ‘very serious’ categories for press freedom,” a statement said.
