After he finishes waging an intergalactic holy war in the third Dune flick, Timothée Chalamet will embark on a much more family-friendly space adventure with Selena Gomez in the new animated film Not Alone.
The film was announced Monday, June 22, though in classic Chalamet fashion, he made sure to stoke some interest with a cryptic Instagram teaser last night: “New movies announcement tmrw :)” he wrote alongside a photo of a sky with a rocket emoji. Not Alone — which marks Chalamet’s first feature-length animated project — is set to arrive April 16, 2027.
In the film, Chalamet will voice Joe, described as an “introverted rocket mechanic,” while Gomez will play Fran, an “astro-botanist,” who’s built the first “plant-fueled rocket.” The two come together as they prepare for the rocket’s inaugural launch, and quickly fall in love (though “neither is particularly adept at romance,” a synopsis notes).
Thrown into the mix are a trio of aliens — Dunk, Welly, and Shirm — who take up residence at Joe’s house as they try to evade a bumbling intergalactic cop, Officer Zandro. Fran’s rocket, the aliens hope, will get them back to their planet safely.

Along with Chalamet and Gomez, the Not Alone cast will feature Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou as Dunk, Welly, and Shirm, respectively. Brett Goldstein will voice Officer Zandro, while the supporting cast will also feature Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris.

Not Alone will be co-directed by Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson, and Jonathan Del Val. The trio have worked on a variety of films for Illumination, the animation studio behind Not Alone and mega franchises like Despicable Me and Super Mario Bros.
For Chalamet, Not Alone will follow Dune: Part Three, the highly anticipated, and final, installment of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi trilogy based on the books of Frank Herbert. (It’s set to hit theaters Dec. 18.) As for Gomez, this will be her first major film role since co-starring in 2024’s Emilia Pérez, though she’s also remained busy with her hit Hulu series, Only Murders in the Building, which got renewed for a sixth season last year.
