Arnold Schwarzenegger and Liam Hemsworth‘s new action project, The Kellys, is off to the races after finding a home with Amazon MGM Studios, which recently landed the worldwide rights to the film. The Kellys will stream on Prime Video upon release, bringing the action-packed feature home instead of opting for a theatrical release.
Brad Peyton, the director behind 2018’s Rampage, San Andreas, Atlas, and more, directs The Kellys, which follows Jack Kelly, a disgraced NYC cop whose wife, Molly, is taken hostage by terrorists inside an old armory building. Subsequently, he’ll have to join forces with the people he fears most to save her: His family. Thunder Road Films is the studio.
The Kellys is Schwarzenegger’s latest project for Amazon MGM, following his starring role in the Adam Shankman-directed action comedy The Man with the Bag. Written by Allan Rice, The Man with the Bag tells the story of what happens when Santa’s magic bag is stolen, and he turns to his naughty list to find Vance, a former thief, to help him get it back. As part of a masterstroke of casting, Schwarzenegger plays Santa, while Alan Ritchson plays Vance. The upcoming Christmas-themed film also stars Awkwafina, Michael Cyril Creighton, Jane Krakowski, Ken Jeong, Roger Bart, and more.
Perhaps more notably, Schwarzenegger is also attached to King Conan, a long-awaited project in development at 20th Century Studios from Christopher McQuarrie, the director of films in the Mission: Impossible franchise.
Liam Hemsworth recently starred in Netflix’s The Witcher as Geralt of Rivia, replacing Henry Cavill as the silver-haired monster hunter. He also plays Owen Brophy opposite Laura Dern in Susannah Grant’s Lonely Planet. Grant’s romantic drama unfolds at a retreat in Morocco, where a woman meets a young man whose acquaintance evolves into an intoxicating, life-altering love affair.
Say what you want about Brad Peyton’s Rampage, I thought that movie was a blast! Dumb, but fun as hell! I grew up playing arcade games, so I’ve got a soft spot for them. Still, they don’t make movies like Rampage anymore, and maybe there’s a reason for that, but people who oppose absurd creature features are dead inside. Dead, I say.
