Tesla has started rolling out a minor software update that clarifies a recent change in FSD. According to the release notes for software update 2026.14.6.7, the company has moved an update to its cabin camera systems from the “upcoming improvements” section to the list of active features.
The text in the release notes states that the update improves “driver monitoring system sensitivity with better eye gaze tracking, eye wear handling, and higher accuracy in variable lighting conditions."
While this feature looks to be a new addition to update 2026.14.6.7, that’s not actually the case. The official @Tesla_AI account took to X to explain the situation, noting that "this was released in a previous update, but wasn't highlighted in release notes.” Beyond correctly classifying
This means if your vehicle is running either update 2026.14.6.6 or the newer 2026.14.6.7 release, the upgraded attention-tracking capabilities are already present and active in your car. The core Full Self-Driving build version doesn’t go up with this release, instead remaining at 14.3.3.
It remains unclear why Tesla chose not to increment the FSD version with this point release. It could be because, beyond correctly classifying the eye-tracking improvements, this latest update only introduces minor changes to FSD that didn’t warrant a new version number. Alternatively, it might simply contain some bug fixes for the new Spring 2026 Software Update features that also needed to be delivered to FSD users.
Tesla’s upgraded eye-tracking builds on a broader effort to improve how the car monitors human attention on the road. When FSD v14.3.3 first rolled out with software update 2026.14.6.7 last month, it not only introduced the Spring 2026 Update features to the FSD branch but also relaxed the in-cabin driver monitoring system. It became less aggressive with its audio alerts, provided the driver's eyes remained on the roadway. Better eye-tracking should help with that.
By improving eye-gaze tracking and how the system handles sunglasses or subpar lighting, your Tesla can more accurately verify whether you’re actually paying attention to the road, reducing annoying system nags. The improved eye-tracking and attention leeway in FSD v14.3.3 were recently part of the world’s first fully autonomous, coast-to-coast journey across Canada with zero human interventions.
As Tesla’s planned global FSD expansion continues to gain steam, especially in the EU, robust driver monitoring will be essential to satisfy local regulators. With improved eye tracking now officially an implemented feature, there are a couple of other “upcoming improvements” in the latest release notes to look forward to: pothole avoidance and an expansion of the neural network’s core reasoning to more than just destination handling.
