System may strengthen into Tropical Storm Arthur near Texas coast – WDSU

Potential Tropical Cyclone One is nearing the Texas coast, and is still expected to possibly bring life-threatening flooding to portions of Texas and Louisiana.
The system is moving northeast at 6 mph and is expected to move farther offshore of the Texas coast this morning.
It will then move back inland over extreme eastern Texas or southwestern Louisiana Wednesday night.
The latest update from the National Hurricane Center still keeps the track East.
This will increase rain chances for areas like Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Alexandria, Covington, Hammond, New Orleans, Picayune, Hattiesburg, and Jackson.
These areas should prepare for rain up to 10 inches over the next few days.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for the coast of Louisiana from Sabine Pass to Morgan City.
PTC One will drift off the southern Texas coastline through the evening, and drift into the warm western Gulf. As the tropical low lingers over the western Gulf, it will likely strengthen into a Tropical storms as sustained winds strengthen up to 40 mph.
Tropical Storm Arthur would be the first named storm of the season, and is expected to make landfall Wednesday evening along the Louisiana-Texas border before moving inland through Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
A Flood Watch is in effect for all of the Northshore, River Parishes, portions of the Bayou Parishes, and the metro through 7 a.m. Friday.

A Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for flooding to occur. Use the time now to prepare for flooding if you live in a flood prone area. Be prepared to take action if a flood warning is issued.

Rainfall accumulations of 5-10 in with locally higher amounts will be possible over the Northshore and south Mississippi. 3-5 in for the river parishes and metro, and 1-3 in for the bayou and coast.
