Education Minister Ashish Sood on Saturday said he has held meetings with over 700 principals of Delhi government-run schools over the dip in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 pass percentage and asked them to make quarter-wise action plans to improve learning outcomes and results.
Mr. Sood said though the Class 12 pass percentage has dipped nationally, that shouldn’t be the case in Delhi as there is a lot of focus on education by the government.
“We have been focusing so much on education and our resources are better than several other States. The aim is to improve the learning outcomes and the quality of education, and not just limit it to infrastructural interventions,” the Minister said, adding that he will also hold meetings at the zonal level to interact with the rest of the 300-odd principals.
Delhi recorded a pass percentage of 92.10 in the CBSE Class 12, which was less than 95.18% recorded the previous year. The national pass percentage was 85.20%, a drop of 3.19% from last year’s 88.39%.
On Friday, the Government Schools Teachers’ Association (GSTA) wrote to the Education Minister to withdraw all show-cause notices and memorandum issued to teachers over the drop in CBSE Class 12 pass percentage.
According to the letter, the CBSE implemented the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system this year “without adequate preparation and practical assessment”.
After the declaration of Class 12 results, a large number of complaints were received from students and parents regarding marks being significantly lower than expected. Many students applied for re-evaluation and faced technical difficulties during the application process.
