A new international report warns that education systems must urgently restructure curricula to preserve human skills that artificial intelligence cannot replicate, or risk eroding democratic society’s foundations.
The report, produced by Columbia University’s Center for Sustainable Development and the Future Investment Initiative Institute, identifies “nonnegotiable” competencies – critical thinking, ethical reasoning, empathy, creativity, collaboration and metacognition – as priorities across all education levels.
Core recommendations include treating AI as a tool requiring constant scrutiny rather than an authoritative source; redesigning curricula before technological change overtakes institutions; and prioritizing experiential over passive learning.
Greece’s Peace Journalism Laboratory at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki contributed to the research.
