Several school districts across New York state are holding re-votes for their budgets on Tuesday. Here is a look at the districts that need to pass a budget or face a contingency budget.
The Randolph Central School District and the Lyndonville Central School District will vote on the same budget as last month, which did not pass.
Randolph Central School District’s budget failed overwhelmingly, 313-191. The proposed budget included a more than $2 million increase from the previous year to address principal and interest payments on debt for building projects, according to the district’s website. Overall, the proposal was a 19.3% increase from the 2025-26 budget. The proposition to purchase new vehicles for the district was also struck down in a 268-227 vote.
The Lyndonville budget failed 172-129. Voters ultimately rejected the proposal that included a $19,194,000 budget — $1,719,670 more than the approved budget from last year — and also included the authorization of the purchase of one school bus and an increase in library funding.
Grand Island Central School, Cuba-Rushford Central School and West Valley Central School Districts all have made reductions to their budget.
Voters in Grand Island rejected the districts initial proposed $81,685,805 budget for the 2026-27 school year, which included a proposed 3% increase in spending. The budget failed by a vote of 1,352-1,280 and the vehicle proposition also failed, 1,334-1,280.
The district has adjusted its budget proposal and their new propsed budget includes a tax levy increase of 1.5%.
The budget in Cuba-Rushford was also voted down, 278-144. Proposition #2, which seeks to purchase two new school buses and one van, passed by a vote of 229-190. Proposition #3, a measure regarding the Cuba circulating Library, also passed, 276-142, and Prop #4, on therushford Free Library, passed by a 306-115 vote.
Additionally, all five budget propositions were unsuccessful in West Valley.
