What does version 26.04-13.40.00 do?
Sony has begun issuing a new PS5 system software update, and it’s apparently rolling out in a phased release.
I can say it’s at least available in the UK now, as I’m downloading it as I write this.
The new firmware update takes PS5 to version 26.04-13.40.00, and it weighs in at just over 1.2 GB.
What does it do, then?

It’s always a fun day when you get a minor patch for your PS5. I’m gonna need to buy a new pack of party poppers soon.

But seriously, this doesn’t appear to do anything front-facing — it’s probably a security update to prevent people hacking the console, or maybe it’s laying the groundwork for more exciting updates, like the impending UI upgrade.
I don’t know when exactly that’s supposed to arrive, but we’ve already seen images of what the new home menu looks like, so presumably it’s not far off at this point.
I’ll update the article if and when any secret new bits and bobs are discovered.
Anyway, time to get your console updated!

My PS5 before the stability update:
Some companies / people / governments etc would pay a lot for a bit of extra stability, and here Sony is giving it away for free! And some still aren't happy!

Are we sure Playstation didn't employ Theresa May to write these firmware update notes? I seem to remember "strong and stable" being her main shtick… 😂
If my PS5 gets any more stable I'm gonna have horses moving in.
wonder if this has any of the restrictions relating to identity verification baked in?
Does it really take this long to make changes to the OS? I feel like the changes in beta have been there for months. It makes me wonder how big is the team that is working on improving / maintaining the OS.
@Bob_Tempura was it that or 'build back better' where they had it emblazoned on a banner behind them at a conference, as it slowly, letter by letter, fell apart?

@THEBrew I feel like Starmer's patch notes would be something like "lessons have been learned. With this new update we've turned a corner, and we'll continue to listen to our gaming people". 😂
I swear game consoles are becoming more stable then my life is.
@Bob_Tempura suddenly, it's all making sense. Maybe that's what happened in a board meeting once, and it inspired them to introduce micro transactions everywhere.
