A widespread PG&E power outage swept across Placer County early Saturday morning, leaving more than 61,000 customers without electricity and disrupting traffic signals, alarms and travel across a large portion of the region. As of 3 p.m., service has been restored for the vast majority of customers.
According to PG&E updates, the outage began shortly after 6:30 a.m. and initially affected 25,656 customers as of 7 a.m. By 7:26 a.m., that number had climbed to more than 46,000 customers, with roughly 41% of Placer County reported without power.

PG&E described the incident as an “unplanned outage,” with an earlier estimate indicating repairs could be completed by 9:30 a.m.
In a statement, PG&E explained:
“PG&E is aware of a power outage initially impacting about 61,000 customers in the area northeast of Sacramento including Auburn, Grass Valley and Loomis. We are working to identify the cause of the outage.”
This is a developing story.
