Overnight fire at former Laconia State School considered suspicious – WMUR

An investigating is underway after a fire broke out early Sunday morning in Laconia.
Just after 3 a.m., officials responded to an outside fire near Right Way Path and found the former Laconia State School engulfed in flames.
It took crews more than two hours to contain the fire, and firefighters remained at the scene more than 12 hours later to extinguish hotspots.
The three-story building was destroyed, leaving behind a pile of debris.
Officials said the vacant building did not have electricity or utility services, leading investigators to consider the fire suspicious.

“The fire marshal’s office is coming. We do consider it suspicious at this time. We’re waiting on them to show up on scene to do a further investigation of the fire and dig through and do some more overhaul of the building once they take a look at it,” said Deputy Chief Louis Loutrel of the Laconia Fire Department.
No injuries were reported.
Authorities are still working to determine whether anyone was inside the building when the fire started.
The Laconia State School was sold in 2024 for $10.5 million to Pillsbury Realty, which planned to redevelop the site into housing.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
