Other World Computing (OWC), a provider of high-performance storage, memory, connectivity, software, and accessories, announced the acquisition of PowerON Services, a company specializing in IT asset disposition (ITAD), trade-in programs, reverse logistics, refurbishment, and technology value recovery solutions.
The acquisition strengthens OWC’s technology lifecycle management capabilities and complements its SellYourMac.com (SYM) business, one of the largest purchasers and resellers of used Apple devices. By combining OWC, SYM, and PowerON Services, the company aims to provide organizations with comprehensive solutions for upgrading, redeploying, recovering, and managing technology assets while reducing waste and extending product lifecycles.
The move comes as organizations continue investing heavily in technology infrastructure and artificial intelligence initiatives, creating increasing demand for solutions that maximize the value and longevity of existing hardware. OWC said the combined capabilities will help customers save money, reduce complexity, improve agility, and keep more technology out of landfills.
Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Roseville, California, PowerON Services has spent more than three decades developing take-back, reuse, refurbishment, and electronics value recovery programs for enterprises worldwide. The company operates a primary processing facility supported by partner facilities serving customers across the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific regions.
PowerON’s services include customized product take-back programs, value recovery initiatives, reuse strategies, reverse logistics, repair services, secure data destruction, recycling, de-manufacturing, and brand protection programs. Its leadership team brings more than 100 years of combined experience across the ITAD and trade-in industries.
The company maintains multiple industry certifications, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, ISO 14001:2015, and R2v3 certifications. PowerON has also received several industry recognitions, including seven appearances on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in America and two honors from the Sacramento Business Journal’s Top 50 Fastest Growing Companies list.
OWC said the acquisition will significantly expand PowerON’s operational footprint and service capabilities across the United States and internationally. The combined organization plans to offer customers a more complete technology lifecycle ecosystem focused on reuse, sustainability, and long-term return on investment.
Founded in 1988, OWC serves professionals in video and audio production, photography, and business through a portfolio of storage solutions, docks, memory cards, connectivity products, software, and accessories. SellYourMac.com, acquired by OWC, has helped more than 100,000 customers recover value from used Apple devices and has paid out more than $71.9 million for used products since its founding.
KEY QUOTES:
“We’ve spent over 30 years helping consumers, educational customers, and corporations recover value and extend product lifecycles, along with designing programs for computing manufacturers to divert an incredible amount of technology from the landfill back into the reuse market. What excited us about OWC is that they’ve always been at the forefront of extending the usability of technology, which meshes so well with our reuse-first philosophies. They understand that great technology shouldn’t have a short lifespan, customers deserve smarter and more sustainable solutions, and doing the right thing for the environment can absolutely go hand-in-hand with building a strong global business.”
Brent Kelley, Founder and CEO, PowerON Services
“What Brent and the PowerON team have built is really special because they understand this business isn’t just about recycling hardware. It’s about helping organizations get more value out of the technology they already own, keeping good equipment working longer, protecting data properly, reducing unnecessary waste, and creating smarter lifecycle strategies from beginning to end. OWC was founded on this belief, and we are delighted to bring an organization of PowerON’s caliber into the fold, as we endeavor to grow and enhance our capabilities in these areas.”
Larry O’Connor, Founder and CEO, Other World Computing (OWC)
“We are excited about what this means for our teams and our customers. PowerON brings a level of experience and program depth that fits naturally with what we’ve been building through OWC and SYM (Sell Your Mac). Together we have a real opportunity to expand our reach, improve the customer experience, and continue pushing the industry toward smarter reuse and recovery.”
