Dedicated private cloud based on VMware Cloud Foundation replaces single-site in-house operations with a geo-redundant setup across Nuremberg and Munich
NUREMBERG, Germany – noris network AG built and implemented a tailor-made sovereign cloud environment for a major organization in the German healthcare sector. The solution replaces the customer’s previous in-house operation, which was concentrated in a single data center, and migrates the critical IT infrastructure to a dedicated private cloud based on VMware Cloud Foundation from Broadcom. The new environment is distributed across noris network’s high-security data centers in Nuremberg and Munich, creating a truly geo-redundant setup. The project ranks among the most demanding cloud transformations in the German healthcare sector to date.
The shift to two geographically separated locations marks a fundamental improvement in disaster recovery and business continuity. Data and applications are now mirrored between both sites and remain fully available even if one location is affected by an outage, a physical incident, or a regional event. The single point of failure inherent in the previous architecture is eliminated, and the customer gains a resilient foundation that meets the highest availability expectations in healthcare. Security and sovereignty were the guiding principles throughout. The platform meets the strictest requirements for information security and data protection, including ISO 27001 certification, and combines multiple layers of protection operated around the clock from a dedicated Security Operations Center. Responsibilities such as backup remain deliberately under the direct control of the customer, so that full control over business-critical processes is preserved even though operations have been handed over.
A decisive factor was access to qualified personnel. The customer had increasingly struggled to recruit and retain specialists with deep VMware expertise. Through the partnership with noris network, it can now rely on a large team of VMware-certified professionals, with a high share of senior-level certifications, who operate and evolve the platform continuously. The environment scales reliably with the customer’s needs, without the burden of building and maintaining this expertise in-house. When new technology generations of VMware Cloud Foundation 9 become available, noris network guides the customer through evaluation and adoption without putting operations at risk. In parallel, noris network tracks regulatory developments in the German and European healthcare sector and ensures that the platform stays aligned with new legislative requirements at all times.
