KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Airbnb is activating its anti-party technology for the fifth year, targeting the July 4 weekend and FIFA World Cup in Kansas City.
The company says the suite of tools is designed to identify higher-risk bookings and enforce the platform’s year-round ban on disruptive parties – including in the KC market.
Experts note that the system analyzes hundreds of signals to flag potentially problematic reservations, including:
“This technology that we’re rolling off for Fourth of July weekend offers heightened protection against reservations that might be at a higher risk of a disruptive party,” says Javier Hernandez, Senior Communications Manager at Airbnb.
Hernandez adds that he cannot disclose all the signals the system monitors to prevent bad actors from working around it.
Guests flagged by the system are not locked out of the platform entirely, according to the company – they can still book private rooms or hotels through Airbnb.
Airbnb indicates that the technology has shown measurable results:

“We know that it’s had great impact and we’re continuing to build on those efforts,” Hernandez says.
Kansas City is currently hosting FIFA World Cup matches, with Kansas City Stadium set to host a match on July 3 – the day before the holiday weekend begins.
Airbnb says it has ramped up support and safety efforts for the city, including a new guest guide with tips for World Cup travelers.
“The FIFA World Cup is one of the world’s biggest events and we’re so happy to have so many fans choose to stay at Airbnbs for their stays,” Hernandez adds.
Hernandez is reminding both guests and hosts of their responsibilities heading into the holiday weekend.
For guests, he says: Do not book an Airbnb if planning to host an unauthorized or disruptive party. Disruptive parties are banned on the platform year-round.
For hosts, he notes: Get to know guests and their intentions before confirming a booking. Airbnb’s support team is available 24/7 if issues arise during a reservation.
“The safety and peace of mind of neighbors and local communities is important to us,” Hernandez concludes. “That’s why we’ve invested significantly in technology and policies that help reduce the risk of disruptive parties.”
Airbnb adds that anti-party technology is also activated around other high-risk holidays, including New Year’s Eve and Memorial Day weekend.
