New York City, your Knicks are champions, and for the first time in 53 years, the city will host an NBA championship parade.
Shortly after the Knicks’ 94-90 win in Game 5 to secure the NBA Finals, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani took to X to announce the parade will be held Thursday in Manhattan.

The office of the mayor released a statement hours later, announcing that the city will host the first ticker-tape parade in Knicks history. The parade will conclude with a key to the city ceremony at City Hall. Additional details — including parade logistics, ceremony information and media RSVP instructions — will be revealed later Sunday, according to the statement.
Though the parade route is unknown, the last few major New York sports championship parades were down the famous “Canyon of Heroes.” In 2025, the NWSL’s Gotham FC began on West Broadway and Park Place, continued on Barclay Street and ended on Chambers Street outside City Hall. In 2024, the WNBA’s New York Liberty started at Battery Place and traveled north along Broadway, concluding at City Hall.
In February 2012, the NFL’s New York Giants followed a similar route. Quarterback Eli Manning led the team through Manhattan for the parade after the Giants beat the New England Patriots 21-17 in the Super Bowl. The team traveled north along the Canyon of Heroes on Broadway, starting at Battery Place and Washington Street and ending at City Hall, as ticker tape rained down on the players.
It is not yet known whether the Knicks will follow a similar route, as champagne is likely still dripping from the visitors’ locker room in San Antonio, but New York will get its chance to celebrate its newest throng of heroes Thursday.
