iOS 27 will be unveiled in mere days, and rumors indicate the update will bring new design changes in big and small ways to a variety of iPhone apps. Here’s what’s coming.
Based on Mark Gurman’s reporting, two iPhone apps will get the biggest design updates in iOS 27: Camera and Image Playground.
Apple redesigned the Camera app in iOS 26, but Gurman says even more changes are coming in iOS 27. He writes:
Apple Inc. is planning to upgrade its Camera app, making the software fully customizable as part of a broader set of user interface changes coming in its next iPhone software update. With the new approach, users will be able to choose which features appear in the Camera app — and where they’re placed.
In addition to being “fully customizable,” Camera will add a brand new Siri mode for visual intelligence features.
Image Playground is another app getting major design changes. Gurman says it “has been completely redesigned across iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27.”
Updates to Image Playground reportedly include a gallery redesign and streamlining of controls when creating new images or editing existing ones.
There are at least three other apps getting design updates in iOS 27, though in more minor ways: Find My, Weather, and Safari.
Here’s a preview of what’s coming, per Bloomberg:
As with every major OS update, iOS 27 will likely have a variety of other smaller design tweaks and refinements across other apps.
iOS 27 isn’t expected to make major changes to Liquid Glass, but there are some refinements coming.
One change involves the tab bar. In iOS 26, Apple split out search into the bottom-right corner of apps, separate from the tab bar. But iOS 27 will reportedly re-integrate search with the other navigation tabs. Bloomberg mentions this impacting the Music, TV, Podcasts, News, and Health apps, but it’s likely to apply to all apps.
We’re expecting more Liquid Glass refinements than just the tab bar update, though, and anything that changes on a system level could impact Apple’s built-in apps too.
What new design changes do you hope iOS 27 brings to Apple’s apps? Let us know in the comments.
