The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series hits Sonoma this weekend, and qualifying takes center stage later today (Saturday June 27).
It should be a fascinating battle for the final road course pole position of the year, with 18 consecutive oval races lying in wait in the second half of the season.
Kiwi road course bully Shane van Gisbergen will start the session as the hottest of favorites to continue his domination of the sport’s premier series (away from ovals, that is).
His closest challenger should be Trackhouse Racing team-mate Connor Zilisch, if the teenage rookie is able to break the astonishing run of bad luck which has plagued him in 2026.
