More than a dozen victims and their parents are suing Lancaster Country Day and artificial intelligence companies following the AI child pornography case.
Two 16-year-old boys from Lancaster Country Day School admitted in juvenile court to using artificial intelligence to create fake nude images of classmates, according to Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office officials.
The teens were adjudicated delinquent on 59 felony counts of manufacturing child sexual abuse material.
The lawsuit, filed on Monday in federal court, also lists the two boys and their parents as defendants.
The civil suit claims the school received multiple tips through June 2024 about the deepfake nude images, but officials did nothing to stop it. It says mandated reporters failed to take action, and through that, the two boys continued creating AI child pornography affecting more victims.
They created more than 350 images of 59 underage girls, according to court documents.
“This case arises from an extended, catastrophic institutional failure,” the lawsuit filed by Kline & Specter, P.C. says.
The lawsuit says LCDS staff, including but not limited to the head of school, their assistants, and the president of the board, engaged in misconduct to obstruct the criminal investigation. It also says students were originally discouraged from discussing the incident with law enforcement and denied support.
Victims say they have suffered from anxiety, panic attacks, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder since the incident. The lawsuit says this experience ruined their high school experience.
The victims and their parents are demanding judgment against defendants for compensatory damages, punitive damages, attorney’s fees and costs, and other relief as the court deems necessary.
