Say “Bello!” to the two new stars of the latest Illumination feature – James and Henry.
Ever wonder why the Minions are so charming and camera-ready in the Despicable Me and Minions movies?
That very question will be answered in Illumination’s Minions & Monsters, exclusively in theaters beginning July 1, 2026. A third prequel in the Minions spin-off franchise, this adventure reveals another chapter in how these loveable creatures have evolved (or not!) over the ages. The latest film is set during the Golden Age of Hollywood in the roaring 1920s, as a new tribe of ancestral Minions are on the hunt for their next evil overlord. Instead, they accidentally become early cinema stars.
Ah, but fame can be fickle, so when the Minions can’t stick to a script, their brief career is over. However, two Minions — James and Henry — have bigger dreams and decide to make a monster movie of their own, to establish their place in Hollywood. Problems come with how they decide to bring their monsters to life.
Who are these starry-eyed dreamers? Find out more about James and Henry, the next superstar Minions, below.

Because Minions & Monsters is a prequel feature film detailing even more misadventures by the Minions throughout history, audiences will meet a new batch of the yellow-goggled creatures. In particular, James and Henry are different from their pack of subservients, because they fall in love with the “pictures” in Hollywood.
Enamored with making movies, James and Henry can’t let it go when they all get fired for not being able to read intelligible dialogue from a script. Instead, these two decide to make a monster movie… with actual monsters!
Per the movie’s synopsis, “With the help of a spell book taken from an old boss, James and Henry summon some fearsome monsters to play the villains in their movie. When things go haywire, James, Henry, and all their buddies must work together to save the world from a band of rampaging monsters.”
Minions & Monsters opens exclusively in theaters on July 1. IMAX tickets are available here. All other screening tickets can be found at the official movie website, here.
