The majority of respondents of a CBS News/YouGov poll released June 21 believe the war in Iran created more problems than it solved.
In the poll conducted among 2,519 U.S. adults from June 17-19, 57% believed the war created more problems than it solved, compared to 21% who thought the opposite, and another 21% who responded “neither.” The margin of error for the poll is plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.
The poll also found 78% of Americans thought the U.S. should end the conflict now, versus 22% who thought the U.S. should continue until Iran gives up more. That majority includes 60% of Republicans and 56% of MAGA Republicans who agree the U.S. should end the war now. The first round of Iranian peace talks ended in Switzerland on June 22, and the parties said they agreed on a roadmap to reach a final deal within 60 days.
President Donald Trump‘s approval rating overall has been underwater for the majority of his return to office, but the war’s disruption to the global oil supply chain has pushed prices up, and his approval rating down. CBS News also found that people are more likely to say the U.S. should end the war now if they also say the rise in gas prices has been difficult.
What is his approval rating? See the numbers:
The CBS News/YouGov poll found 38% approve of Trump’s job performance, up slightly from May’s poll. The uptick was helped by non-college White Americans who believe the gas prices will fall, CBS News reported.
Trump’s approval rating has been net negative for over a year and has been fluctuating but trending more negative over the last several months. Here is Trump’s average approval rating, according to aggregators:
